Toute personne physique sollicitant la délivrance ou le renouvellement d'une autorisation d'acquisition ou de détention de matériels, d'armes ou de munitions des catégories A et B ou faisant une déclaration de détention d'armes de catégorie C doit produire un certificat médical attestant que son état de santé physique et psychique n'est pas incompatible avec la détention de ces matériels, armes ou munitions.
Dans le cas où la personne mentionnée au précédent alinéa suit ou a suivi un traitement dans un service ou un secteur de psychiatrie d'un établissement de santé, l'autorité administrative lui demande de produire également un certificat médical délivré par un médecin psychiatre.
Un décret en Conseil d'Etat, pris après avis du Conseil national de l'ordre des médecins, définit les modalités d'application du présent article. Il prévoit notamment les conditions que doivent remplir la délivrance, le renouvellement ou la validation du permis de chasser ou de la licence de tir pour que la présentation de ces documents, au moment de la demande d'autorisation d'acquisition ou de détention, ou de son renouvellement, ou de la déclaration, supplée l'obligation prévue au premier alinéa. Il prévoit également les conditions dans lesquelles le représentant de l'Etat dans le département peut vérifier si la personne mentionnée au premier alinéa est ou a été dans le cas mentionné au deuxième alinéa.

Section 1: General Provisions
Article L. 312-6
Any individual requesting the issuance or the renewal of an authorisation for acquisition or possession of materials, firearms or ammunition of categories A and B, or declaring the possession of firearms of category C, must produce a health certificate testifying that his physical and psychological conditions are not incompatible with the possession of these materials, firearms or ammunition.
In case the person, referred to in the preceding paragraph, is undergoing or has undergone psychiatric treatment in a health institution, the administrative authority requires that a health certificate from a psychiatrist is also produced.
A Decree in State Council, upon opinion of the National Council of the Medical Order, sets implementing conditions of this article. It also includes conditions that must be met for the issuance, renewal, or validation of the hunting permit or of the shooting licence, so that submission of these documents, at the time of the request for an authorisation for acquisition or possession, or its renewal, or [at the time of] declaration, deputizes for the obligation provided for in the preceding paragraph. It [the Decree in State Council] also provides conditions under which the State representative of the department may verify if the person, mentioned in the first paragraph, is or has been in the case mentioned in the second paragraph.
