The meeting of the Australasian Police Minister's Council in 2002 resolved to agree the National Trafficking Agreement would:
- address border security (paragraphs: 1-5);
- consider the need for a national ballistics identification system (6);
- ensure safety testing of all imported firearms (7);
- examine legislative changes to prevent the release of a large quantity of handguns, landed in Australia in the two years prior to import law changes (8);
- prohibit the posting of firearms (9);
- establish a Commonwealth cross-border firearms trafficking offence (38 and 39).
