Ley sobre armas de fuego y municiones

1. Con fecha de 2 de diciembre del 2008, fue adoptado por el Consejo de Estado el Decreto-Ley 262 sobre armas y municiones. El mismo contiene las definiciones de armas pequeñas, armas ligeras y municiones. De igual modo, regula todo lo concerniente a la tenencia, uso, importación y exportación de armas pequeñas y ligeras y municiones dentro del territorio nacional. Dicho Decreto-Ley constituye una de las principales y más completas contribuciones del Estado cubano a la prevención, el enfrentamiento y la erradicación del tráfico ilícito de armas pequeñas y ligeras.

2. Con fecha 31 de diciembre del 2009, fue aprobada la Resolución 30 por el Ministro del Interior, estableciendo el Reglamento del DecretoLey 262 sobre armas y municiones. A partir de la puesta en vigor de este Reglamento, se inició el proceso de inscripción para los poseedores de armas de fuego autorizados y aún no inscritos. Una vez concluida esta fase, se iniciará la renovación de licencias a los poseedores de armas de fuego que lo requieran. Finalmente, se comenzarán a expedir licencias para portar armas de fuego a los agentes vinculados a la seguridad y protección que lo precisen.

Firearms and Ammunition Law

1. On December 2, 2008, the State Council adopted the Decree-Law 262 on firearms and ammunition. It contains definitions of small arms, light weapons and ammunition. It regulates all matters relating to the possession, use, import and export of small arms and light weapons and ammunition within the national territory. This Decree-Law is one of the main and most complete contributions of the Cuban State to the prevention, tackling and eradication of the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons.

2. On December 31, 2009, the Minister of the Interior adopted Resolution No. 30, on the regulation of the Decree-Law 262 on firearms and ammunition. From the entry into force of this regulation, the registration process of authorised, but not yet registered, firearm owners was initiated. After this phase, the renewal of licences of firearm owners will be initiated, upon their request. Finally, the issuance of licences for the carrying of firearms by security and protection agents should start.
