Une proposition de loi adoptée par l'Assemblée nationale relative à l'établissement d'un contrôle des armes moderne, simplifié et préventif est en cours d'étude par le Sénat.
Il est envisagé entre autres de punir de cinq ans d'emprisonnement et de 75,000 € d'amende le fait de frauduleusement supprimer, masquer, altérer ou modifier de façon quelconque les marquages, poinçons, numéros de série, emblèmes ou signes de toute nature apposés ou intégrés sur des matériels mentionnés à l'article L. 2331-1, des armes ou leurs éléments essentiels afin de garantir leur identification de manière certaine suivant les modalités fixées par un décret en Conseil d'État, ou de détenir, en connaissance de cause, une arme ainsi modifiée (Article 31 Art. L. 2339-8-1)

Measures against the Removal or Alteration of Markings
A law adopted by the National Assembly concerning the establishment of a simplified and preventive control of modern arms is currently being reviewed by the Senate.
It provides for penalties of 5 years imprisonment and a €75,000 fine for fraudulently removing, concealing, altering or modifying in any way the markings, proof marks, serial numbers, emblems or signs of any nature affixed to or incorporated in the materials mentioned in Article L. 2331-1, arms or their essential components, in order to ensure their certain identification, according to the modalities set by a Decree of the State Council, or to knowingly possess an arm modified in this way.
