'Genuine Reason'
In some countries, the legislation does not expressly state that a person must have a 'good' or 'genuine' reason for owning a firearm, but in practice a reason is required. For example, South African legislation does not state that a person must have a reason for possessing a firearm, but firearm licences are only granted for specific activities, such a 'licence to possess firearm for occasional hunting and sports-hunting'.
