Prohibited and Restricted Firearms

Brazil has two classifications: 'restricted-use weapons' and 'unrestricted-use weapons'.

The use and possession of automatic firearms and certain handguns are restricted to the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and, in certain cases, to sport shooters, hunters, and small arms collectors.

Restricted-use weapons and ammunition cannot be sold in gun shops; they can only be purchased directly from the factory with a special authorization from the Brazilian Army.
