Programmes and Activities

CPA Areas:

In 2009, the government collected around 4,000 weapons from former Popular Defence Force (PDF) members in Southern Kordofan State.

National Level Efforts:

The NSDDRC and the MoI have developed a first draft of a National Action Plan on SALW Control (2010). The NSDDRC, in coordination with the MoI and Ministry of Defence, will take the lead initially in the area of weapon reduction and collection activities in the targeted communities, which will subsequently be managed and coordinated by state government authorities under the aegis of the MoI.

In April 2011, an arms marking exercise was initiated: it will first mark arms held by regular government forces before moving to those held by civilians.

Eastern Sudan:

In collaboration with UNDP, NSDDRC implemented the Support to Human Security Project in Eastern Sudan (July 2008‐May 2011) in the three states of Red Sea, Gedaref and Kassala. 12 community‐based security projects were implemented, including both 'hard' and 'soft' components. In addition, sensitization workshops on community‐level SALW control were implemented, alongside Knowledge, Attitudes And Perception surveys (KAP).
