La Dirección General de Control de Armas y Municiones (DIGECAM) como autoridad nacional es el responsable de registrar los datos sobre las armas: marca, modelo, calibre, número de serie, largo de cañón o cañones y conversiones de calibre que tuviere, así como lugar y fecha de registro.

DIGECAM exige que las armas importadas a Guatemala contengan los datos de número de serie o registro, marca, modelo y calibre … el procedimiento de registro incluye la toma de dos muestras de huella balística, el registro de los datos del arma y marcando las armas con la denominación GUA que significa que las armas de fuego están registradas en el Estado de Guatemala, finalizando el proceso con la emisión de una Tarjeta de Registro de arma de fuego.

Existe en la DIGECAM un sistema administrativo de registro de las armas de fuego que incluye: a) Banco físico de huella balística; b) Archivo general de la documentación relacionada con el registro.

The agency in charge of registering firearms in Guatemala is the Office for Arms and Ammunition Control (DIGECAM). The following data is registered: make, model, calibre, registration number, length of barrel or barrels, calibre adaptations and place and date of registration.

DIGECAM verifies that the serial or registration number, make, model and caliber of all imported arms are known … the registration procedure consists of: taking two ballistic fingerprints, registering the firearm data and marking the gun with the letters GUA (for Guatemala). DIGECAM's firearms registry has: a) A physical archive of the ballistic fingerprints; b) An archive with all the registration documents.
