There is a continuous control on individuals engaged in illegal manufacture, trade, stockpiling, transfer, possession as well as financing for acquisition.
The suppression of illegal trafficking in weapons was realised through intensive activities to increase the efficiency in detection of these activities, especially the more grievous forms of those crimes…
Since 1998 - 2003, a total of 9,876 weapons (3,119 military weapons, 219 sporting rifles, 571 hunting rifles) 5,915 other types of weapons (industrial use, cold weapons, etc) and 477,894 rounds of ammunitions have been confiscated.
More specific cases are:
Case finalized in February when in the area of three villages in the vicinity of Struga in house searches and in open spaces 105 hand grenades, 6 automatic rifles, 1 pistol, 6,540 Kg of explosives and 11,170 rounds of ammunition were found (Materials were from Albanian Origin). Criminal charges have been raised against 2 individuals. Case finalised in May when during a planned operation 2,200 rounds of ammunition were found from Bulgarian Origin.
