Firearm Oversight
One of the mandates of the FLA [Firearm Licensing Authority] is the development and maintenance of a ballistic database of all licensed firearms.
To that end, applicants for gun licences are required to visit the office of the Authority along with their firearm(s).
The Authority, on receipt of the firearm, test-fires it and collects the bullet and spent casing; the firearm's 'ballistic signature' is scanned into its database for future identification reference, if required (FLA, 2006).
