Ireland. 2000 ‘New Security Arrangements for Licensed Firearms.’ Garda Press Release. Dublin: An Garda Síochána. 6 June

Relevant contents

As of from the 1st of July, 2000 new applicants for firearm certificates will have to install a steel storage cabinet securely bolted to a wall in their dwelling in order to secure the firearm when not in use.

Existing firearm certificate holders will have to install such a cabinet by the 1st July, 2001.

The cabinet must be of a specific standard, and secured permanently to a wall within the building/dwelling. This will apply to firearms up to .22 calibre.

Firearms in excess of .22 calibre will require extra security for the dwelling building in addition to the storage cabinet.

The Garda Síochána will have to satisfy themselves that these security arrangements have been put in place before final sanction is given to the applicant to hold a Firearm Certificate.
