German gun laws are permissive. Current members of shooting and hunting clubs, the country's most visible, but a minority of all, owners number 1.6 million and 340,000, respectively (Graff, 2002).
Sport shooters are allowed to own up to four handguns, three semi-automatic rifles or shotguns, and 'any reasonable number' of single-shot firearms. Hunters are limited to 'two handguns for final shots of wounded animals', but 'any reasonable number' of rifles and shotguns (IMC, 2006, p. 2).
