The July 2002 Export Control Act modernised the UK's existing export control regime by introducing powers to control involvement in arms trafficking and brokering between overseas countries. SALW trafficking and brokering activities that take place partly or wholly in the UK require a licence (see Section II, Para 2),1 as do transfers of intangible technology.
