Background

In Myanmar, individuals applying for a firearms licence must be 'loyal citizens to the State' and the authorities must be satisfied that the issuing of the licence would 'not be detrimental to … the State's security, regional security, prevalence of law and order and the observance of discipline'.

In a similar vein, Malaysian law states that individuals can be granted an arms licence only where this is 'without danger to the public safety or the public interest'.
