Evolução da Mortalidade por Armas de Fogo 1980/2012

Segundo estimativas realizadas por Dreyfus e Nascimento (12), o país contava com um vasto arsenal de armas de fogo:

- 15,2 milhões em mão privadas;
- 6,8 milhões registradas;
- 8,5 milhões não registradas;
- Dentre elas 3,8 milhões em mãos criminais.

A magnitude desse arsenal guarda estreita relação com a mortalidade que essas armas originam. Os registros do SIM permitem verificar que, entre 10 e 2012, morreram mais de 880 mil pessoas vítimas de disparo de algum tipo de arma de fogo (AF). Nesse período, as vítimas passam de 8.710 no ano de 1980 para 42.416 em 2012, um crescimento de 387%…

Gun Death Trends 1980/2012

According to estimates from Dreyfus and Nascimento (12), the country has a vast arsenal of firearms:

- 15.2 million in private hands;
- 6.8 million registered;
- 8.5 unregistered;
- Among them 3.8 million in criminal hands.

The magnitude of this arsenal is closely related to mortality caused by these firearms. SIM records show that between 2010 [1980 more probably] and 2012, 880,000 people died from being shot by some type of firearm. During this period, the victims went from 8,710 in 1980 to 42,416 in 2012, a 387% increase.
