Ninguna persona podrá poseer o tener armas largas cuyos cañones hayan sido recortados, armas cortas de cualquier calibre que funcionen en forma totalmente automática, armas de fantasía, entendiéndose por tales aquéllas que se esconden bajo una apariencia inofensiva; armas cuyos números de serie se encuentren adulterados o borrados; ametralladoras, subametralladoras; metralletas o cualquiera otra arma automática y semiautomática de mayor poder destructor o efectividad, sea por su potencia, por el calibre de sus proyectiles o por sus dispositivos de puntería…

Además, ninguna persona podrá poseer o tener armas de fabricación artesanal ni armas transformadas respecto de su condición original, sin autorización de la Dirección General de Movilización Nacional.

Se exceptúa de estas prohibiciones a las Fuerzas Armadas y a Carabineros de Chile. La Policía de Investigaciones de Chile, Gendarmería de Chile y la Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil estarán exceptuadas sólo respecto de la tenencia y posesión de armas automáticas livianas y semiautomáticas, y de disuasivos químicos, lacrimógenos, paralizantes o explosivos y de granadas, hasta la cantidad que autorice el Ministro de Defensa Nacional, a proposición del Director del respectivo Servicio…

Article 3. Prohibited Firearms

No one may possess or keep long guns with shortened barrels, or automatic handguns of any calibre; fantasy firearms, which refers to firearms hiding under a harmless appearance; weapons with an altered or removed serial number; machine guns, sub-machine guns, or any other automatic and semi-automatic firearms of a greater destructive or lethal effect, whether by its power, the calibre of its bullets or its aiming devices…

Furthermore, no one shall possess or keep homemade firearms, nor firearms whose original features have been altered without the authorisation of the General Directorate of National Mobilisation.

The Armed Forces and Chilean Carabiniers are exempted from this prohibition. The Chilean Investigation Police, the Chilean Gendarmerie and the General Directorate of Civil Airforce may only be exempted for the ownership and possession of light automatic and semiautomatic weapons and chemical deterrents, teargas, paralysing or explosives and grenades, up to the quantity authorised by the Ministry of National Defence, by proposal of the Director of the respective Service….
