According to a study by the political scientist Diego Sanjurjo, a pre-doctoral researcher at the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the Autonomous University of Madrid, the civilian arsenal of small arms in Argentina amounts to 3,600,000 firearms , which gives a rate civilian possession of 8.8 weapons per 100 inhabitants, higher than that of Brazil (8.6) and Bolivia (2.5) although surprisingly lower than that of Uruguay (32.6) and Chile (10.2).
