Mexican Army Seizes 4 Tons Weapons

The Mexican army confiscated four tons of weapons from a farm located on the border state of Tamaulipas, authorities confirmed Friday.

The shipment, belonging to "Los Zetas" drug trafficking group, a military arm of the so-called Gulf Cartel, was stored along with nine tons of marihuana, the report stated.

Federal officials revealed that among the confiscated arms there were plastic explosives, grenades, a 50-caliber machine gun, R-15 and AK-47 assault rifles and over 83,000 cartridges of several calibers.

Five people were arrested and five cars confiscated. The seizure was the largest achieved in one single operation against drug traffickers.

Bonifacio Cruz Santiago and his son Alfonso, director and editor of "El Real" newspaper in the Mexican state, were murdered by an armed command at the entrance of the daily building.

About 16 people, among them Gilberto Castillo, municipal police commander of Navolato and his three escorts, have been killed in the last 24 hours in seven entities of the country at the hands of armed groups.
