Bogus Gun Permits Alarm Ebdane; Hi-Tech Cards Eyed

"We are embarking on full computerization of firearms licenses and issuance of ATM-type plastic card permits. I encourage all permit holders to upgrade to the card-type permit once these are issued. This will also determine the authenticity of your permit, as we continue to receive information that there are many fake permits in use today," said National Police chief Director General Hermogenes Ebdane Jr.

The issuance of the permits has been transferred to the Office of the Chief National Police from the Firearms and Explosives Division in order to improve the security and clearance procedures.

Ebdane said the move is aimed at eliminating any procedural gaps that may result from inconsistent application of the rules governing the issuance of the permit.
