Journalists in Harm's Way Can Apply for Guns

Journalists who face risks related to their profession will be allowed to carry guns, the Philippine National Police said Friday.

The PNP chief, Director General Hermogenes Ebdane Jr., issued a directive allowing journalists to bear arms following the murder Thursday of the newspaper columnist and radio broadcaster, Arnell Manalo, in Bauan, Batangas.

Manalo was the second journalist killed in five days and the fifth since January.
